I just got this amp for nothing, it needed a bit of work and a couple of 4558's. The amp is now working except for what sounds like mains hum. I have run my guitar through my RP155 into the power in socket and there is no hum at all.
I am assuming from that, that the power stage and the output stage are OK, leaving the preamp. When I put my guitar in the input socket via my volume pedal, moving the pedal up and down increases and decreases the hum, at its loudest in the centre section of travel.
Does anyone have any Idea what can be causing this problem.
Cheers Dave. |

Dave, I have had some luck in Peavey chassis' by simply rerouting some wires to lessen hum. Doesn't always work, but remove the plastic clips that bundle them together and move them about and listen. BE CAREFUL! I'd use a plastic tool for this as you could get onto some dangerous voltages. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

Thanks Clyde for your reply, I have now found the problem, a broken capacitor,(preamp voltage supply.)
Cheers Dave. |
