How do you do a tribute to another steel player? Do you play only songs he made famous or had great success with? Do you try to play them in his style or your own? Think about it, it wouldn't be easy! Especially if that player is the one and only “Mister Moon”! With that opening disclaimer, let me say that it wasn't an easy thing to record this tribute to Ralph Mooney, but I wanted to do one and I sincerely hope I've done him at least a LITTLE justice with it. I decided to make the song selection a mixture of his songs, songs he helped make famous, and some of my own. I play them in a mixture of his style and my own. I know of no one who deserves tribute more than "The Moon", but it would take a dozen such CDs to even hint at all the tremendous accomplishments of his long career. That's why my subtitle states that this is just a "glimpse" of The Moon.
This is probably the most "Feel Good" CD I've ever recorded. It's upbeat and (I Hope) a lot of fun to listen to. I want to thank, Tommy Jennings (Waylon's younger brother), Fred Jack, Al Brisco, and Ol' Moon himself for participating in what I feel is a very special project which pays homage to a very special musical giant.
The playing time on this CD is 34:00
Here are eight sound samples, and there are more on my site. Click on the title to listen.
** Moonshine
** Merle Medley
** Foolin'
** Moon's Mingus Medley
** Mooney Had His Back

** Texas Wlatz

Clive. I have one with your name on it...No, Wait! It has Mooney's name on it. I'll save you one for sure.
I'd be honored to have you and Mike Fereday as Roadies. I must warn you that the road to the stage is a long and treacherous journey. I pray we make it out alive. |

Today, driving down to Dallas, I had opportunity to play this CD all the way through. This is a quality recording and you are sure to love it if you are a fan of "Moon". |
