But i'm not sure what's fair to charge.

I feel like I got it for a fair price, and ideally, i'd like to never get rid of it, but I keep hearing changes that I can't get to, so i'm thinking about getting a d-10 or a universal.

But maybe i should just get lessons.

Any ideas out there? I can try and post pics if that'll help.

I'm super intrigued by Bill Stafford's copedent and playing, but is anyone out there a 14 stringer? Was it hard to make the leap?

-Phil

Hello Phil,

An S-12U would be less of a leap than a S-14U. Smile

Hey Roger, I thought about that, and I'm keeping my eyes peeled for sure.

But then I get to thinking, an s-10 E9 had me a little scared, thought it would be a big jump from bass and guitar to steel, but it hasn't been so bad.

I'd hate to pull the trigger on a 12 and think, man, i wish had those extra two strings for fatter chord voicings.

But I'd also hate to give up my MSA, and then find out I bit off more than i could chew.

HI PHIL,

Just attend the TSGA convention next week in Dallas.
Perhaps you will find an S-12U that suits you.

IF you do step up to an S-12U, don't sell your MSA right away. Smile

That's good advice. I'm just going to have to save up, and I'll keep the MSA for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, I can't make the dallas show. I'm a choir teacher, and our annual trip is taking us to St. Louis that weekend.

I think there's a good 14 string on e-bay at the moment---if it sells I expect it will go cheap---I can count the number of really excellent 14 string players on one hand. Those low notes you are talking about are really in the bass guitar range, so while they sound cool playing steel tunes by yourself or with BiB tracks, I expect that you would find that in normal bandstand situations they are very rarely used effecitively. But almost all 12 stringers will have a full compliment of those notes as will the C6 10 string tuning, it's what is in the middle that tends to be different with 14 string tuning---I think. I think your lesson idea is the way to go, I played a MSA Vintage XL 12 from about 79 to 81 six nights a week, stock pickup and all---it sounded good and served me very well and I don't recall feeling limited on it.
