Topic: Carter Starter Vol Pedel Worth Tom Bradshaw Pot ? |

The only volume pedal I have is the one that comes with a Carter Starter but the one I have is too noisy to use.
Anyone have some input on putting one of the Tom Bradshaw Dunlop “Type J” Potentiometer. 470K-ohms, audio taper in this Pedal ?
Is it worth the $28 for the pot? |

Craig, look at it this way; it's probably not worth anything without replacing the pot. You couldn't buy another working pedal for 28.00 either. I would replace it, if you get another pedal later, keep it for a spare.

| I put a Dunlop 470K pot in my Goodrich and it is working fine. They are supposed to be good for one million cycles of rotation so it seems like the cheapest way out right now to me. |

| Those pots are great, well worth what Tom sells them for. They sound great and last. What's the alternative? Use a crappy sounding $15 pot that will go scratchy and need to be replaced many times before Tom's pot does? Live with a bad pot? |

I have one and love it. I may not be a good judge here because I sold my Goodrich L 120 and now only have the Carter . I liked it because I could change the jacks to the other side . But is a fine little volume pedal and definitley worth putting a pot in. I wouldn't mind having another one if I was still playing enough to justify the cost.

I have one of those Dunlop pots in my Goodrich and it just broke after very little use. The spindle turns round and round without stopping now. The pot is sealed in plastic so I don't see how it can be repaired like the older steel case models.
I have a Carter pedal as well and it has some noise in that pot that won't clean up.
I'm looking for something more sturdy than the Dunlop. Are there any other good options? |

If it broke, I'd say you had it installed wrong; either skipped the brass collar or had the pedal trying to move it past full on or full off.
Since nobody makes pots designed to bear those forces, they'll all break if you do that

Hey Lane, I was adjusting the travel on the pedal with the collar and cord. I had a little screwdriver holding the spindle and a hex key to tighten the collar, it slipped while tightening and turned all the way around. I was surprised at how little effort that took...
I was able to still make it work by setting the stop points with the pedal but I don't trust it for long. |

| Bret: I don't have a record of your buying the Dunlop pot from me, but if you will send me your mailing address, I'll send you a replacement pot free. I just ask that you return the broken pot to me so I can get a replacement from Dunlop. Obviously, whoever sold you the pot didn't test it before selling it. I test all of the Dunlop pots I sell. I know that not everything made is always perfect. However, my replacement policy is! ...Tom |

A friend bought the Goodrich pedal from someone on the forum and they had recently installed it. I bought it from him as I wasn't a member at the time. So I didn't buy the pot directly from you.
I can send the bad one to you if you want. |

That is what you call service.When I ordered a pot from Tom he had it in post before I could send money to him, a real gentleman to deal with.
