| I am curious on a single 10 3x5 setup if most of the players raise 1 and 7 for the G or lower 3 and 6 down to G? What are the Pros and Cons of either for a new player? |

I think the G# to G lower is used a lot. A while back Paul Franklin told us that he lowers G# to G and F# with a half stop.
This works good on the 6th string on my guitar. On the 3rd it's a different story. First lower works fine, the second one is darn near impossible because of the thin string gauge.
One things for sure, the G# to F# on the 6th is a nice change and gettinig to be a "must have" for me

| That G in pedals down gives you the dominent 7th . A must for Mooney type licks. |

I mostly use the 7th string G to get a 7th chord with pedals down, and for melody notes at the II position (with second pedal). I don't have it on the 1st string.
I mostly use the 6th string lower for the minor chords at the ii, iii and vi positions. I have that one on an inside pedal - I don't use it very much.

I lower strings 6 & 3 to G on LKL front, and raise string 7 to G (not string 1--instead I also lower string 2 to C#) on LKV.
I find the G lowers constantly useful for minors (including m6, m7, and m(maj7)), sevenths, and diminished chords.
A nice thing about the 7th string G raise is that you can slide full chords between the seventh chord it gives you with pedals down and the seventh chord two frets below with B pedal and E lowers. |

Ya gotta have that G note in there for Ralph Mooney stuff, & lowering the 3 down to G with the pedals down is what your after,,,But you could also just raise the 1st string up to G,pedals down, & reach up there with your 2nd finger to get the same sound,you
will find some other great licks there too with a G on the 1st string..In the old days, you were asking for trouble messing with that 3rd string,..Old Jer..
