I just bought a 52 fender champion that has had it's electronics replaced - including pickup. I really like the guitar and would like to put it back to at least sounding somewhat original. Thinking maybe putting a Tele pickup in it. Anybody know what will fit? I also want to replace the pots as they are really garbage. I went on the allparts site, but there's a lot to choose from. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I think the original pup is a tele lead with a smaller baseplate. I had a Schecter tele neck pup in mine for a while, that was an easy fit.

Abe,

Seymour Duncan makes an exact replacement for the Champion PU. I believe his part # is 11034-45. I have no experience with it but it has a good reputation for guitars such as yours that have been canabalized for the "Kieth Richards" tone of the rectangular base Tele style pickup.

Jason Lollar has a new direct replacement pickup. He winds these to bring out a bit more midrange than the traditional pickup (which is a bit more twangy).
I've heard this pickup and a friend of mine uses uses it in his Champion and it sounds GREAT Cool Cool

What about the capacitor? Is there a specific number I need to get? Thanks again.

Abe - I went through this exact thing a while ago. I did a lot of research and found that the Fender Lace Sensor exactly matches the 50's sound. It also fits as is - just an added bonus.
