My friend asked me have a look at his Kay reso guitar. Several upper strings make a buzz in the cone. Do all resos have an adjusting screw? The bridge is in 2 pieces but touching each other. I could loosen the strings and separate them if there is a screw under there.

I'm not familiar with Kay resos, but assuming it is a spider bridge type instrument, buzzing at the cone can be caused by several things, including cone not seated correctly, spider not level and contacting the cone on all legs, or a loose tension screw. There are others, but these are common.

All of these should be checked, but be careful with the tension screw. It should be tightened no more than 1/2 turn after it engages or you can collapse the cone. Gregg McKenna has an excellent section on troubleshooting buzzes and rattles here:
