Topic: Fender Trapezoid Pickup |

The bobbin (coil) in one of the trapezoid pickups on my Fender Dual Pro. seems to be vibrating slightly.
It's smaller than the (metal and magnet) enclosure in which it's encased.
What is the best way to anchor the coil to stop this?
I'm thinking of wrapping it with electrician's tape.
Who has found a better way?

Rick, I wouldn't wrap the bobbin with electrical tape. You run a risk of damaging the wiring and making it too tight in there. The gap is probably small enough that you can put a small piece on the bottom of the housing and on the top and then set the bobbin in. I did this once and worked pretty well on one of my trap pickups. Make sure the piece is long enough so the lip of the bobbin rests on the tape.

Thanks Mike. Yes, it does make sense.
My second thought was to get a 1/8" thick sheet of styrofoam and cut a piece
slightly larger than the coil and place it in the bottom of the enclosure.
My concern about opening the enclosure and exposing the coil is the risk of pulling the leads loose where they are soldered to the copper wire ends. |

I'm not absolutely sure, but; I think the original bobins were encased in a thin coating of wax, top and bottom. Just enough to fill the empty space on top and bottom.

| As John states I can recall taking the trap. pckps out of my old Fender steel and the bobbins were coated , probably dipped ,in a heavy black wax !! It was a real thick coating but I can't recall what actually held the bobbins in place . They certainly weren't loose at all !! Eddie "C" |

The wax tends to be quite sticky and sticks to the top and bottom of the casing, so; it can't slide around! Any wax or even just a gauze-pad top & bottom would do the job of filling the space!

Yes, you are correct about the wax coating.
It took only a thin piece of kitchen drawer liner to shim it firmly into place. |
