Ok here it is. www.missleslie.com Miss Leslie has had the CD "Between the Whiskey and the Wine" out for a year and half and fixin' to release the new Cd; "Wrong is what I do best"...and have had rave reviews all over the world; but have NOT YET been played in any rotation on Willie's place "sirius radio".
This to me is a true injustice and Leslie is a wonderful singer/songwriter/fiddle player; and is obviously getting kicked aside from this format.
I'm calling on all fans of Leslie; to go to this link http://www.sirius.com/williesplace and click the "send email" to any of those DJ's on the list and speak your mind in 500 words or less...to help support Leslie's music and suggesting her to be added; to this very tight-nit clique.

Got-er-done! Sent it to every one of 'em.
500 words sounds like a lot, but it took me at least 20 edits to get down to 500. I wrote what I thought was 500, but the first pass was 1176! Maybe I'm too verbose... 
By the way, you and Miss Leslie really kicked it on TruCountry the other nite. I hope we'll be seeing y'all again soon.

Thanks Johnny. Sometimes it takes folks to be Verbose to get something through some thick skulls.
I appreciate your support for Leslie; she is one of todays greatest songwriters....and needs to be heard singing in her passionate hardcore country way.

I sent them emails too. Bill Mack plays the Mills Brothers. If I wanted to hear that stuff, I'd tune to the channels that feature that. I noticed that Dallas Wayne has been getting away from traditional country in the afternoon show too. If it keeps going in that direction, I'm going to tell them to stick it. I pay to hear what I want to hear. I can get variety for free on FM.
I like most of the new ones they play, but there's a lot of people doing traditional country that don't get played on Willie's Place. There's enough time to give these others a spot and a chance. No advertizers, we're paying the bill here, you guys better listen.
Pandora might be an option. I get it on my cell phone and you can request an artist and they play songs by similar artist..... all free 24/7.

i co-host the delta songwriter showcase at 95.1 fm,
"the hawg", in winona, mississippi on sunday nites.
we're not xm/sirrus, but we are serious about songwriters and we play miss leslie and the juke jointers quite often, with ricky davis on pedal steel
we like to feature the steeler if we know who it is.
we recieved the whiskey album when it came off the press and our listeners love texas music by texas songwriters. especially girl fiddle players too!

Leslie; yes she can, but why???
They've already been played. We are about NEW original material; written about real life and sung in a classic country way.....that is about progression.....>You have to progress past the regurgitation of the same old stuff at some point; or it will die out.....there will be nothing there to replace the classics.

Well, if she doesn't play anything old, how about a good footstompin' fiddle tune that everyone can get up and dance to? Maybe even something you and her swap solos back and forth.

Foot stomping fiddle tunes are not what country music is all about. I'm sure Leslie can play them, most fiddlers can, but she's probably like me and don't want to fool with that any more than she has to. There's many a good fiddler that can play hoedowns but has no idea about backing up a singer or playing breaks on songs.... on the other hand, a good country fiddler can always play a hoedown if called on to do so.
Not a lot of use in learing to play the triple stops in Fiddle Patch (Oklamona Stomp) and all people ever ask for is Orange Blossom or the Mockingbird.

The music business is difficult for any musician nowadays - and especially for the independent one. Yes, it can sometimes help to hire people to try and get radio airplay or reviews or other types of publicity. But hardcore country is a tough genre to generate buzz and validity with. And original hardcore country (for some reason) is even tougher.
Oddly enough, the reviews were over the top with "Between the Whiskey And the Wine", but radio airplay has been difficult. I DO want to give a big shout-out to all the public radio station DJs out there as well as other DJs that are not bound by corporate playlists. These guys and gals have been my lifeblood. I appreciate all of them so much.
I'm hopeful that "Wrong Is What I Do Best" will be well-received and we'll be able to reach more fans. But I have to say that the most effective way that I've found to expand my audience is word of mouth. It doesn't have to necessarily be calling or emailing a radio station. Music blogs are another great opportunity. And personal friends are even better.
Thank you for your help. I share with all of you a deep love for the steel guitar. I'm proud of the music that Ricky and I have made together. I believe it to be true to the spirit of classic country music and true to an instrument that is almost single-handedly responsible for that music's distinctive sound. I'd love to see the music continue - and continue to showcase someone that I am honored to be able to play and record with.

That is exactly the point that needs to be made here.
Fans of Traditional Country music are not campaigning for radio stations to play the old stuff, and nothing but. It just doesn't work that way in the music industry, for any genre of music. Absolutely, throw me a classic here and there; I love that stuff. All Traditional Country fans do. But somewhere around 30 years ago, the inflow of new material in that style tapered off to a trickle, and it did almost die out as Ricky alluded to.
When it comes to talent, in both songwriting ability and performing, I put Miss Leslie right up there with Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn. That's my opinion, but it just also happens to be a fact. Now, what does it say about the current state of affairs that if Patsy and Loretta entered the country music scene today instead of when they did, and had a hard time getting airplay??? That is what us Traditional Country guys are complaining about, not that stations don't play Whiskey River and Way To Survive 24/7.
Miss Leslie and a few others are out there working hard to salvage what a lot of us believe is a genre of music that deserves it's place in the mainstream of the music industry. So, we can either sit around and bitch about the demise of Traditional Country, or we can support gifted artists like Miss Leslie, who have the talent and the drive to salvage it. Me, I plan to be front and center at Pearl's in the Fort Worth Stockyards for the release party of Miss Leslie's new CD, "Wrong Is What I Do Best".
Ricky, please let Miss Leslie know that I wish her great success, and that I'll do my part, little as that may be in the big scheme of things. Hopefully, many others will as well. I enjoy and appreciate what y'all are doing.
And Rick C... when I get asked to play a "foot stomper", I just tell 'em "I done forgot 'em all." And that's not far from the truth. I've played them plenty enough for one lifetime.

Methinks those who don't like playing toe tappin' footstompin' up-tempo country music have a narrow conception of what real country music is.
Even the so-called 'honky-tonk' music has some good footstompers with great piano, fiddle, and steel breaks.
A band that does only songs with shuffle rhythms (e.g. like the beat to Heartaches By The Number) and whiny cry in your beer songs would sound pretty boring to me.

Is that what a shuffle rhythm beat is? A song like Heartaches By The Number? I've always been so confused by that. I was thinking if I can get to the Opry sometime and ask Lady Antebellem, or Brad Paisley maybe they could explain it to me. Now Leslie has saved me a trip. Thank you buddy.

When I listen to a band I listen to everything, including the beat, the tempo, and the style in which songs are played.

We can agree that it does get redundant. I have to admit, I'm addicted to that shuffle beat. I like the ballads too, but I get tired of all of it sometimes and just turn the volume down and enjoy some silence in stereo.
