I had never heard of Jim Hawthorne before but whether you like his antics or not it's an interesting read. He was way ahead of his time in some ways ... almost single-handidly creating a radio persona that we've seen over and over again since. He seems like a transitional figure between the era of Spike Jones and Ernie Kovacs.

Nyok Nyok is one of the weirder American recordings and seems to have a bit of post-war malice in its intention.

Yeah, but after reading Hawthorne's bio I could see that he was just trying to be funny. Laughing

Compare that to some of the obnoxious 'shock jocks' of today who are into 'on air bullying' and right-wing demagogy. Evil or Very Mad
