You definitely won the BIG prize...yep, a very young Alvino Rey ! I've been associated with Big Bands for many, many years...clips like this example, (and many in the Glenn Miller Story) are fairy tales. It just doesn't spontaneously happen this way. Oh well, I suppose it makes for good 'enetertainment' if nothing else.

Jimmy Stewart was a fairly accomplished accordian player, and it really does look like he is playing that chromatic harmonica!

He probably was a good harmonica player. That is NOT my point. A room full of Big Band musicians are highly unlikely to burst into a newly composed song sans the chart, then run out come back playing harmonicas to perfection. Just doesn't happen that way in REAL life, but in 'Hollywood', seems anything is possible.
