Early Black 'mica S-10 push-pull, estimated to be a 1966. Cut tail. Butterfly Klusons, original pickup. Originally 6 pedals and ? knee levers. Recently expertly overhauled, now 3 pedals & 4 KLs with parts for a 4th pedal. Otherwise all original. Original case in good condition.
I'm looking for ideas on fair market value for sale between private parties. |

I'd say $2250-$2500 would be in the ball park.

It depends upon who did the "expert overhaul."
For example, I had one fairly high profile Wraparound that was restored by an "expert" -- and documented on a series of "educational" videos appearing on a steel guitar website. When I got the guitar, it needed to be sent to Mike Cass to be completely redone. Mike did a marvelous restoration.

Was Emmons making cut tails in 1966? |

I did the work on John's guitar, and make no claims of being an "expert" . It was originally a six pedal, one knee matte black, decal instrument with a couple more knees added, hooked up to the unused pedal crossrods. Chris Lucker estimated it's age based on a description over the phone. Marty Smith made us some proper cross-shafts, brackets and levers and re-did it as 3x4. John at the time wanted the LKR closer than usual to the LKL and I will move it if the new owner wants it in the normal spot. Real nice guitar. |

Peter,
I would not have said 1966 for a cut tail.
If I recall when you called me, I was in a cottage hot tub at San Ysidro Ranch. I was undoubtedly insouciant, so who nows if I was thinking clearly.
Sounds like a 1969, but I sent the owner about a dozen questions to pinpoint.
It does not matter the year, however. This is not a 1964 we are discussing or even a pre-jig guitar.
The details that are important, for better or for worse, are that it is an earlier rather than later Cut Tail, and that it is a single neck. That is all anyone really needs to know other than how it is set up.
Chris

If it's a '66 it should have come with a bolt-on rather than a cut-tail. . . .heres my '66 S-10.

The work Peter did looks very expert to me. I think he is getting to know these machines very well having rebuilt several d-10 push-pulls, and with his meticulous attention to detail he does very careful and thorough work.
It was not my attention to misrepresent anything. Notice I did not say "self-proclaimed expert". And I guess my information was incorrect about the year of manufacture.
Now let's get back to the original reason for my post - What is it worth? |

I think Jim Eaton nailed it.
Any more than that and you start entering D-10 territory. |
