Does anyone know about a place to rent a steel and possibly an amp in Austin? I'm flying down for sxsw this year and don't want to lug my 70s msa on an airplane if there's another way around it. Amp too, you never know what you are going to get with a backline.

John
I may know a couple steel players in Austin Texas.
I have some amps and a S-10 ZB.
Other than that all my steels are universal tuning.
What are the dates and times

I had never heard of the sxsw until I read this post and then looked here http://sxsw.com/music

It sounds like a fun place to be. Thank you.

I've attended, and performed in, SXSW and it's a blast! Do go, if you can!

The last time I saw a pedal steel guitar at Heart of Texas Music, it was a Fender 400. They have a session 400, which they are convinced is worth $1500 Shocked (obviously never shopped on the forum for one!) As my friend Mack said, South Austin Music is probably your best bet. They frequently have PSG's in stock. If I get a chance, I'll stop by and inquire and post here if I find anything for you. Oh, and I hope your sxsw gig isn't downtown or you'll be humping this stuff a long way. They make no concessions for musicians whatsoever, as far as parking, stage access, etc. FYI and you can check to make sure, but most if not all sxsw venues provide a backline and frown on players using their own amps as it adds to stage change-over time.

Ken, as of right now I'm playing three shows on Wednesday march 17th. There may be another day in the works

as far as playing downtown, I know all about lugging gear around. This will be my third time playing sxsw. I can't say I'm even a fan. Too many people too many bands. Yet somehow I keep finding my way back.
