OK, gang, today I received my instructional DVD and wanted to be the first kid on the block to review it.
What you get: 70 minutes on one DVD plus downloadable TAB, midi file, backing track and original track via mail respectively Mike Neer's website.
The DVD consists of three segments. First part teaches you the melody of the tune, second one concerns itself with the solo and third one expands by giving you licks, chord analysis, soloing ideas, right hand exercises and gear info - very useful!
The overall quality of the DVD is excellent: Crystal clear picture, good sound, split-screen to cover every playing angle. Mike leads you through the segments in a relaxed way. Not every good musician makes for a good teacher and vice versa, but Mr. Neer scores in both departments (and he wears a cool western shirt!)
CONCLUSION:
Up to now, the best DVD on the market IMHO was Cindy Cashdollar's course.
I think this DVD is equally good AND gives you added value with all the downloadable extras.
It is not for the faint-hearted, though: The tune is demanding and the chord substitution stuff in segment three leaps into jazzy territory (think A7b5b9-chord )
I guess, the idea is that you can just learn the tune - no small feat in itself - and as you progress, dig deeper into the whole subject. OR, ignore the tune and learn useful licks and brush up your technique. So this DVD will keep you busy for some time - probably until Mike does his next one! |

Thank for the review, Nils. I hope the DVD helps you in your journey.
Some VERY interesting developments going on right now that I'm extremely excited about. I can't elaborate now, but it's very promising. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Thomas,
no problems at all watching it on my iMac. Otherwise, I would have mentioned it
(Don't own a stand-alone DVD player outside of the Mac). |

I wouldn't have a problem creating a PAL DVD for anyone who purchases the DVD. I could easily include it in the package along with the NTSC version; however there will be no graphics on the surface. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Mike -
The DVD is for 8-string, C6th, right? Can you please list the tuning for me?
I ordered it, just wanted to get my guitar set-up for it.
