Is there a pre-setting or "formula" for a string effect on the Profex II?
Could someone please share this info?

What are you calling a "string" effect?
Do you mean a sound like a violin? |

I may have wrongly described the ProFex effect I was looking for...I do mean violins. As in Ray Price music.
Thank you for calling attention to this important omitted detail!!!
Sorry!

There's nothing in my copy of Jeff Newman's list (2-3 yrs old) that hints at a "strings" effect. There may be something in the built-in settings, I don't have that list handy. (And I haven't tried "kriss-kross".)
You may try to "roll yer own". Do you have a copy of the Profex II "User's Guide"? (Not the "User's Manual", but the "User's Guide".) It shows the effects that are available and how to chain them.
From there it's up to you to experiment by building different chains of effects (and each effect can have a number of user settings) at an empty user slot and hearing what you get.
You could chain delays to the point where you could still be hearing your last note while yer packin' up.
I'm still workin' on an effect that will mute all my missed notes & clams. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

WELL I WAS CURIOUS ABOUT PROGRAMING IT FOR A VIOLIN.. WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD ANY GOOD SETTINGS.. I CHECKED JACK STONERS SITE, BUT ALL THAT IS THERE ARE THE 'NEWMAN' SETTINGS.. SO, IF ANY ONE HAS A SETTING THAT THEY LIKE FOR FIDDLE, I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW IT.. I GUESS I COULD GET A BARCUS-BERRY PREAMP, BUT I ALREADY HAVE THE PROFEX AND IT WON'T HAVE TO COME OUT OF MY POCKET.. LOL.. THANX

Craig,
Are you talking about settings for playing fiddle through Profex, or some kind of effect to produce fiddle sounds with a steel guitar. If it's the later, you might try putting a cat's tail under the volume pedal. If it's for a real fiddle, I've used a Profex and basically the generic pedal steel setting that comes with Profex was pretty good, less some of the delay. Fiddle with Peavy is like steel and you need to take away a lot of the mids. I got away from that and I use a Baggs bridge, with a baggs portable pre that just sits on top of the 112 or 400 whichever I'm using. It's got volume and EQ and a DI jack for the sound guys if they want it. In that cae settings on the amp are pretty much straight up with reverb depending on the building.
It's been said that you have to be a pretty good fiddler to keep from sounding awful. I don't think pedal steel with a violin effect is going to do the job. I always hated it when a keyboard man would start putting synth strings in a song. It always sounded cheezy to me. Fiddlers are cheap. I know first hand. ![Laughing](images/smiles/icon_lol.gif) |
