This is one take on how you can play Night Life on the E9th Tuning in the key of D. Many of the ideas presented here can be used in a lot of other songs too, so they are good to know. For example, the minor 7th chord that is available on strings 7,5,4,3 with pedals A,B down is pretty cool and doesn't require you to have the 9th string lower change. This is just my first take on this and I'm sure there will be some errors in the tab 1st time around. See the complete treatment on my web site for more info on the chord structure and an overview of the C6th version. There's also another easy approach to the chords shown on my web site that's not included here but I don't have a sound file for it.

Updated! Listen to my tab 7 version below which adds the Boo-Wah, Hammer Off and Slides much like the original C6 solo. The pedaling is tricky but it will force you to learn some new combinations!

Greg,
love it. I now know it can be done not only on the E-9 neck but it also don't sound to bad at all. You have been a lot of help for many of us on here and I want to thank you for that. A few years ago when I lived in Centerville PA. We swapped a few licks back and forth, you on steel me on the 6 string over the net.

Thanks!! Rick!!

Richard, Merl Smith sends his regards to you. His health right now is not the greatest but I take CD's over to him regularly. I am a better guitar player thanks to listening to you play. You have some really advanced guitar riifs and it really drove me crazy figuring out how you did them.

I've got some updates for this tab tab that get it a lot closer to the boo wah sounds and replicates the hammer off sound also that preceds the boo wah. Hope to post these soon.

Greg, thank you for such a nice compliment. So sorry to here about Merle, a very nice guy and friend who gave me my first job on stage with the "Moonlight Ramblers" I was 14 years old and was with them for about 4 years. Hard to belive that was some 54 years ago...
I do have another question for you and a few others may like to know, Do you play out nowdays. Many I bet would like to hear you at a live show?

Richard,

I play out a few times a year and that's about it. I got into home theater, recording, electronic repair, the trumpet and fiddle and work has really picked up not to mention having a grandson now. So too many irons in the fire and getting too lazy to move the equipment in and out of the house!

Greg, It sure is nice to have people giving us free instruction on this site. I'm going to go to the University in town this weekend and print everything you've got on your website... for free Cool . I feel like I've already paid them enough money for a piece of paper that won't find me a job... Devil
