Topic: Carter half stop |

| I was wondering if someone would post a picture for me of the 2nd string half stop on a Carter guitar not the end plate but the underneath side where the bell crank and rod attaches for the 11th finger. I have the parts but i'm not sure how to hook it up. My 2nd and 9th lowerer on RKR. |

Lee, just to clarify, are you wanting a picture of the bellcrank part? Or the finger where the rod attaches?

It's just a rod that hooks to a bellcrank lined up with the "11th" string finger, like any other change on the guitar. No real mystery. Mine hooks to the bellcrank in the position farthest from the body of the guitar and goes through the bottom finger hole (if guitar is standing upright). You just use the nylon nut to adjust where the finger engages to tune the D note. Here are some pics, but I don't think they will reveal very much.

Here is another idea, John Fabian told me this years back. If the pull is not stiff enough ( can't feel it) add yet another bell crank to the cross shaft for the 2nd string lower and put the rod into one of the C6th changer fingers for a "larger"string. This adds yet another stiff spring to the mix when lowering to the D.
The purpose of the 11th E9th finger is specifically for the 2nd string lower but any changer position not being used at the same time ( C6th neck) can be used. Of course this only works on a D10 !
I should add, speaking of John, he did tell me to check my Steel to make sure it had two necks. Funny guy, I sure miss him...

..... or cut of a loop or two from the " 11th string" return spring to make it stiffer. This will increase the detente feel at "D" |
