I have an inexpensive Korean Flinthill squareneck and several of the legs of the spider are floating. That is, there is a small gap where they should be resting on the cone rim. I'm sure it affects my overall volume and it causes buzzing if I rotate the whole spider a small amount. Can I safely bend them ever-so-slightly w/o snapping them off?

Yes you can bend spider legs quite a bit without breaking them. If you will be taking it apart I'd recommend tweaking them and then sanding them level. If you have a very flat surface like a marble slab or a table saw you can tape down some 80 grit paper and knock it down quickly.
If it's going to remain together I find a toothbush handle or end of a wooden spoon is handy to get in the coverplate holes.
