something that would make it easier to hold? I'm just getting ready to start playing pedal steel, played some lap steel in the past and had some trouble with hand fatigue...

A saw a chap a couple of weeks ago at a slide guitar meeting, who played some gorgeous Wiessenborn guitars while sitting in a wheelchair.
He clearly had other physical challenges in addition to mobility problems, because he played wearing a thin leather glove which incorporated the bar on the index finger.
He was a superb player by any account, and effortlessly demonstrated both dobro style hammers and pull-offs and non pedal slants.
It another idea to think about.
Cheers

I took some Newman seminars with a guy in NY in the early 90's and he had welded a piece of hollow tubing to his bar for his crippeld left hand.
He was a good player also.

Apart from modified equipment it may also help to look at the way you are holding the bar. At times I've had problems with my bar hand cramping and I also have some arthritis in both hands. It helps to relax your grip on the bar since most of the time it requires very little pressure to cradle it between your thumb and fingers. Rather than squeezing it in a death grip all the time ( which is often what beginners tend to do ) just steer it with a gentle grip. For certain techniques, eg. hammer-ons, single note runs, you'll need to tighten your grip for control, but the rest of the time try to keep your bar hand loose and fluid. It helps me. |

I added velcro to the sides of a Shubb and a Stevens slide and cut the loops to fit my finger..
I actually prefer the Shubb

I have trouble gripping the bar too. I can't lift it up easily, it slips out of my hand. It's better than it used to be, but I bought a grooved bar and it's pretty nice. Only problem is that it has a small radius, and I have to be careful with vibrato bar rolling. _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord, |

I have not seen them in a while , but there was someone on ebay selling bars with a removable ring that went into a hole drilled in the center of the flat end. I had saved the link and see if I can find it.This is close but not the one I am thinking of.

Chuck Brattain sells a finger lock like this, but I tried to bring up his website and it didn't work. |

That is who is making this one. The link on the bottom does not work but the email might work . _________________ "The Oddball" A MSA Keyless with pedals to the right. |

I have arthritis, rub some rosin on your thumb and side of your finger, also this works with your picks. That holds them. I've used rosin for years, a fiddle player got me to using it. |

I'm not sure if he's marketing them or not, but Forum member, Al Risbeck just showed me a standard bullet bar that he attached a finger ring to. Looked pretty slick.
