hi folks,
i'm finally getting around to doing a total rebuild of the "bride of frankendekely u-12". i'm trashing all the "permanent" components of the under-carriage and only keeping what's topside and the home-made finger/changer system. i've been slowly getting everything i need to make it happen and to match the copedant that i'm using but i'm lacking foot pedals.
it only came with three pedals and i need four more. i have my guess as to what they are but i thought in keeping with the funkyness of the instrument, i would ask you guys if you have any old pedals lying around. i thought i might do a mix and match kind of thing.
i'm not looking for anything too modern, or any dekley pedals but beggars can't be choosers....
would love to hear what's out there and thanks fer lookin....also, if anybody knows where to get those ball end connectors for the bottoms of the rods....

Connie, I'd love to see some pictures of the rest of this guitar, including the crude undercarriage. I bought a very crude project a few years ago, that has those same pedals, and a very similar crude pedal bar. Do you know who made it? Has anybody seen those pedals on anything else? |

Those look like the old-style Sho~Bud pedals that have been trimmed down on the sides. |

That really looks a lot like the one I have. I think those pedal are slightly different than the Sho-Buds. Mine are just a tad shorter, and the waffle bumps are a little larger and flatter. Those crude permanent pullers, and endplates are very similar. The sort of Zum looking fingerboard is very similar. Mine had a sho-bud single raise single lower changer that was crudely modified. The endplates are bent aluminum with leg mounting blocks welded in the corners. Everything underneath was grimy. I think the guy was a diesel mechanic, with very basic brazing skills, and used his garage tools to make a guitar, and apparently(unfortunately?) he made two!
I didn't give hardly anything for it. I intended to fix this up as a cheap guitar for a kid to learn a little on. The more I messed with it, the more I ended up doing to it. It really got out of hand. It only had 2 pedals when I got it. I had a friend cast me another pedal to match. I cleaned it all up, painted it black, added some trim strips, made nicer perm style welded pullers, a perm style changer, and it actually is a pretty nice little guitar. It sounds good. I took a hundred dollar guitar, spent 5 or 6 hundred worth of time on it(a very conservative estimate), and now I've still got one heck of a hundred dollar guitar to show for it! |

hey bobby,
the welded corner mounts seem to be the giveaway. mine's got those too. or at least a version of it. the bent aluminum just covers a steel endplate system with the leg mounts welded in the corners. the changer system is all hand made on mine though and the fret board is just a piece of sheet metal painted black with colored tape affixed to it(and a damn fine job this guy did too, cause you can't tell unless you get your eye right there.)
yes, everything was grimy as heck. smelled like old cigarettes too. i got her permanent stuff working but i just said, to heck with it. i wanna make it nice.
i would love to see pictures of yours. would you be so kind as to post some or send em to me? _________________ 82'sho-bud u-12, frankendekely u-12, bride of frankendekley u-12, a whole mess of other instruments...finger still messed up but getting better... |
