I have two pro level guitars, a Shobud professional and a GFI expo. Both what would be considered Pro instruments. But I have decided that my next guitar will be a Sho bud maverick (Pan keyhead).
I will set it up with 2 pedals and one knee
A-B standard, and raising of the E with the knee.
I might give it a custom finish too.

In my opinion this will make a great easy and light guitar for rehersals, short concerts etc....

I think that the limited copedent will make me a better "thinker" on the pedal steel and help me to further make use of the open strings to find the chords I need.

I will use my pro steels as my main guitars, but I think I will make good use of this little shobud too (when I stumble across one for the right price Smile )

What is your opinion on this idea? Confused

I think a Carpsteel would be a better choice.

If it were me looking for a Maverick I would look for an earlier version with the raised neck and gumby style tuning heads and without the brown covering on the body. These were built for a short while before Sho-Bud cut a few corners to save money on the build.I almost had one from e bay but I got beat out in the last few seconds. It was then I decided on my Stage One and it is an awesome sounding guitar.

However simple you want to set it up, I don't thing a Maverick would be the best choice. May not even be the cheapest and lightest.

I think a carpsteel will be a bit more money, depending on what I find.....?
But they look nice.

But in my (maybe crazy) eyes, I think the Tunerpan-maverick look really good.... Confused Very Happy

I had a GFI starter before, played good, but I think thay are priced a little higher than used mavericks...?

A & B pedals and an F lever (LKL) is the way my Maverick is set up, and I like it fine. I don't think I could get used to having the F lever on RKL, so I moved it.

You can use coat-hanger wire for pull rods on a Maverick.

I would 2nd Mike's vote for a Carpsteel because I have one that I got for all the reasons you brought up. As a "fly-gig" guitar it can't be beat!
I pack it up in it's case, than put that inside the hard plastic moulded travel case for my golf clubs, which has plenty of room for some extra foam padding on both ends and around the guitar case itself and I have never been charged any extra baggage charge as they think it's a set of golf clubs!
And I did swap the pick up for an Alumatone and that made a good sounding guitar into a GREAT sounding guitar.

Tor Arve,
Get in touch with Arnfinn Lenes in Drangedal.

He has a Maverick sitting there. Ugly as sin because someone painted it a terrible red color.

I played it a wee bit in the summer of 08 the pulls pulled etc, sound came out the amp.

He just might be willing to cut you a deal. That is IF he wants to sell it.
Hils fra Bent

i think a maverick is a fun little option for what you are considering as long as you can get one cheap..less than $500 (?).

Thanks for the replies Smile

I am hoping to find something in the "up to 500" price range.....It doesen`t have to be in great shape, I am pretty handy.

I know there are quite a few in norwegian homes, I just have to search.

Bent, I called Arnfinn Lenes, he didn`t know if he would sell it, but I will be stopping by him sometime this spring. Nice guy Very Happy
