I was at the NAMM show in Anaheim and saw Al play a set. He did tunes from his new CD "Steelin' in Dixie" and it was great. He was the only pedal player I saw at the show.
An excellent C6th player and an album you should all check out.

I just spent a weekend at the SWSGA PSG show in Phoenix. Al played two sets there and also sat in on 6 string guitar with some of the Jazz artists. A truly great steel player and an all around nice guy!!!

He does. Just saw him at the SWSGA in Phoenix. An Excel single with 14 strings. He used them all, too. Outstanding performance!

Al has been at all 7 Southwest Steel Guitar Association shows. He is a Great guy and a great musician. That 14 string just is amazing. He and Bill Stafford played a set as a duet in addition to Al's sets.

He just pitches in a plays lead guitar and when ask if he will play a set it is simply, "Sure ---- I would be honered."

What he does not know the steel player is the one that is honered.

Great guy and Great musician (Norma Jean says Great husband too)

Al is possibly the single finest jazz steel guitarist alive today.

He plays every Thursday night in a club called CASEY’S in the L.A. suburb of Sherman Oaks. The club only hires jazz bands. No rock or country.

Aside from the use of the steel, the band is very traditional. Ellington, Basie, horns, flat keys etc. The audience accepts the steel as a legitimate jazz instrument because Al is a legitimate jazz musician.

And I live close enough to be able to go see him play as often as I want. Lucky me.

Al is everything good about music and steel playing in general. He's just a joy to listen to! When you get to know him a little bit, you can see why.

Al's set in Phoenix was totally transcendental.

If you all have red/blue 3D glasses from the Grammies, you can see Al in 3D.
