He's listed as composer for a song called "Run 'Em Off" on a Lefty Frizzell CD I have titled Look What Thoughts Will Do |

Onie used to travel with Lefty and open up his shows on the road, I have a couple of his recordings, but they seem fairly hard to find. I think a lot of pickers names in the swing era have been forgotten, what a shame. _________________ I'd rather be pickin' |

I think he was most famous as Karen Wheeler's father, at least that's what I've heard he said once.......
Now someone'll probably ask "Who's Karen Wheeler"...I don't know, beats me.....JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

ONIE PLAYED FOR ROY ACUFF IN 70'S AND 80'S I THINK. HE ACTUALLY DIED ON THE OPRY STAGE DURING THE MIDDLE OF A SONG. THAT'S WHAT I CALL PLAYING RIGHT UP TO THE END. |

Hi Drew, Don't know if it was Lloyd on steel. I worked one show with Onie when he had "Run 'EM Off" playing well on country radio. Around 1951,52 or so maybe. Jody. |

Great record of "I Saw Mother with God Last Night". Benny Martin doing some cool pedal steel-like moves on the fiddle. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

Karen Wheeler was on the Wilburn Brothers show a few weeks ago, and sang Mule Skinner Blues. She mentioned she was Onie's daughter. What a coincidence her name would appear here.

Rick Sinclair and I just did an interview with Karen Wheeler last tuesday Jan 26th on KWKZ 106.1 pure country radio, and she was a delight to talk to. Onie was born and raised in the bootheel of missouri and when I was a teen ager I worked in the cornfields along side of Onie, this was before he went to nashville but he was doing shows locally, and soon left the bootheel for nashville. I knew A J Nelson also and remember them from local shows back in the 50's there is a wealth of info on Onie and Karen on this web site WWW.karenwheelermusic.com .She is still very active and has a brand new Gospel C D that is available on the web site .
