Just wondering how many "liked" the Grammy "Circus" last night???? After watching & listening to "most" (not all)of that, you can't help but realize it is ALL about $$$$ & HYPE!!!

Why can't they have a good show with a line up & awards for all "venues" of music with equal time and representation??

Ya........I'm an OLD FART!!! Oh Well

I didn't watch it but I heard Steve Wariner got an award for his Tribute To Chet Atkins album. Since I didn't see it could someone verify this?
Steve has to be one of the most talented and nicest guys I know.

I've gotta say, there was more suits and ties than I thought. More than on the GOO in a whole weekend. Neil I missed Lady Gaga, did she use a steeler? How about that Pink performance, where was the garden hose.

As I said, there were a FEW good points, But all & all I think the complete package SUCKED!
When they give an award to a true "Musical" talent, why do they just mention it, and do it off camera?????? If Steve Wariner got an award, then LET HIM PLAY a tune!
?????????????

It is definitely a celebrity and record label-driven event. We know it's largely not about talent, especially with regard to the popular pop/country/rock categories. The more obscure categories seem to still have some integrity. Having said that, Jonathan Winters' incredible spoken word album A Very Special Time (co-production and composition by our own Skip Edwards) lost to a Michael J. Fox recording. Therefore, maybe the weight of celebrity carries over into all areas.

He probably smoked a ciggie, but he did nothing on guitar per the JB we know and love, but it was cool to see him on a Les Paul again, hope it ain't the last time!
Let me qualify that with, I only saw the How High The Moon clip. Did he do anything else?

Is there a Parallel Univers that Pop and Country Music has slipped into ? This music must be for the "Cretans" as written about by H.G. Wells.

I enjoyed Beck also, and I was really proud of my pal Clay Cook and his stunning vocal turn in the first segment of the Zac Brown set. Man, that boy can sing.

I enjoy the Grammys the way I enjoy Miss America pageants--not much substance, but tons of eye candy. It usually has its moments. My favorite moment was seeing Leon Russell, who I read here has not been well.

...did anyone notice that a steel guitarist actually won a Grammy, in fact this is Hawaii boy Bobby Ingano's third, via his many inclusions in the Daniel Ho productions of live slack key shows in Maui. He's again backed on guitar by Derrick Mau, another fine steel player, this time for Bobby's theme, Sleepwalk - http://www.mauinews.com/page/content.detail/id/528226.html

Kauai's Kenny Emerson, is another Grammy winning steeler - www.myspace.com/kenemersonguitarist

Levon Helm's 'Electric Dirt' album won the first ever "Americana" GRAMMY, and it was produced by Larry Campbell. Also Taylor Swift's producer(Nathan Chapman) won a few and he plays steel on her records.
