If you live in, (or near) SACREMENTO, and can professionally play HAWAIIAN MUSIC, I have a Hawaiian friend who requires a steel guitarist for a Hawaiian gig on March 26th. If you are interested, please contact Toutai Pasi at: toutai@sbcglobal.net Toutai does quite a few gigs in and around Sacremento....Loves the steel guitar ! This one gig may lead to many more gigs !

I like to think I can play Hawaiian music, traditional that is....... The Manny Fernandez set of three CD's that won 1st place awards for three years in a row.....they are my resume'.

I live on Sacramento Street.......does that give me any advantage?

Skip...My friend Toutai has a day job with the airlines. He lived here in Edmonton for a number of years...we made a CD which I think you have. The gig in Sacremento is being sponsored by the airline as a promotion for a special Mau'i flight. He wants to use a steel player. That's all I know. I figured someone on the Forum who lives in the Sacremento area might be interested in contacting him.

Mele Kalikimaka is what you meant. Tell 'em your keyboard just died on ya.

Good luck if you get/take the gig, you'd be perfect.

I drove from BC to Saskatchewan to play a single gig at Dance Land at Manitou Beach in 2009.

It was for a very good friend but the two day drive was worth it. That stage in the hall can sure get stinky when the back door is open and it has been hot during the day.

Ray could make Sacremento in one good day of driving.

Toutai Pasi? That's a Samoan name . . . Whoa!
Are you sure they'll be doing Hawaiian music?

Aloha DERRICK: Toutai indeed, was born in TONGA, lived most of his life in Hawai'i, entertaining during his college years at the Polynesian Cultural Centre from where he brought his extraordinary talent and skills to Canada a number of years ago when he married a Canadian lady. They eventually divorced, he moved to Sacremento about 6 years ago and is happily re-married to a Tongan lady. He is a FIRST CLASS entertainer in every respect, (male hula, fire, ukulele, guitar, Polynesian percussion along with a great singing voice. He may be Tongan by birth, however he is Hawaiian at heart. A very handsome dude incidently with a physical stature I can only envy. I miss his talents very much around Edmonton. Smile

Ron you're 100% correct. I failed the language test and most likely there'd me MORE communication problems that I can't even foresee at this point. So, I guess I should decline any potential offers.

And, I wasn't even thinking of the MONEY REWARD.....as I beleive as others do here on the SGF, that it's important that we who have been so blessed, should be willing to return to the public via our music, FREE of CHARGE! It will remove some of the guilt for our being able to play wonderful music on our chosen instrument.

And yes, the drive PDX to Corning, CA., is ten hours on the nose at legal speed limits. Then it's time to work-up the olde log books.

I would have settled for nothing more than the FAME that would likely have been derived for appearing with such a great group.

Aloha George,

Thanks for the information. Sorry, I got my PASI and TASI mixed up.

Anyway, looks like this will be a great challenge to the steel player who gets the job.

Talofa Very Happy

Derrick, if I am correct, the name PASI can still be found at PCC, although not Toutai, (pronounced TOE-TIE). Anyway, I failed to mention the gig in Sacramento is an LDS promo to Mau'i. Whoever wants to contact Toutai will have an enjoyable experience playing with him, and will probably develop a lasting friendship with a superb entertainer as have I. I'd love to do the gig were it not for the distance involved (border crossing, etc). Hope someone in the Sacramento area sees this thread and e-mails Toutai. He's a great guy !
