I had the pleasure of meeting John Call of Pure Prairie League when they played in San Diego last Thursday night. His playing provided me with many hours of lick-coping in the 70's and early 80's and his melodic runs on ballads inspired me to try to think a bit outside the box a bit more. We had a wonderful conversation over dinner and I feel very lucky to have made his acquaintance. The vocal harmonies in the current rendition of the band are as strong as I've ever heard and recommend anyone who likes country-rock like music to take them in when they come nearby.

I had the pleasure of finally getting to meet John a few years ago. We played a street festival in Chillicothe, OH with Commander Cody and John was playing with the opening band. We talked about how many times we had probably passed each other along the nations highways in the 70s and 80s. Visiting with and hearing John play made for a great gig. Good to hear he's out touring with PPL again.

Sincerely,
Chris "Tiny" Olson

Jeff was not there. The lineup was Mike Reilly, John Call, Rick Schell, Curtis Wright and Donnie Clark and they all did a wonderful job. John said he got a call from Fats who usually does the gigs these days and then went to N'ville for a couple of days to rehearse before setting out for the 3 stop tour incl. Phoenix, San Diego and Seattle. The show in San Diego was not well attended but very well received for those of us lucky enough to have gone.

I wish I could have seen them. I han't even heard about it. I guess they were here last Friday and I was busy gigging anyway. I haven't heard how they drew here but they played one of the nicest venues in town, The Triple Door. Very nice dinner theater with tiered seating in booths and not a bad seat in the house. I alwasy loved those first couple of PPL albums myself and wore 'em down pretty good.

Great band, and steeler! They played a concert here, back when I was in college, and nobody cared about a rock and roll band with a steel in it. Thought he was a narc, and gonna turn every body's names in to Ray Price, or something.

No Craig Fuller? Doesn't seem quite like the real deal without him.

I see that he has done some shows recently with Fred Tackett and Paul Barrere of Little Feat, and has guested with the Feat now and then. Since Little Feat parted ways with Shaun Murphy as lead singer last year, maybe Craig is getting more involved with that scene again?

I did a show with PPL on the bill last year.
Fats was playing steel. But Craig Fuller really made it special.
Craig was funny. He introduced the next song as PPL's only #1, and the crowd started screaming "Amie, Amie"
he said no, this one...and they go into "Love Me Tonight" that Vince Gill sang.
