Attached picture is of my new Melelani Lap Steel. 8 Strings, with a Mango wood body, the guitar was built by Wayne Joseph, of Florence, OR. Wayne also designed it's "Hilo-Tone" pickup, which was built by Jerry Wallace. This is proving to be a very sweet, mellow sounding instrument, perfect for Hawaiian music. I use it weekly at Smith's Tropical Paradise on Kauai, where I play for luaus with Larry Rivera's Kahili Boys.

Very nice looking guitar Jess, and very unusual wood, with beautiful grain.
Is that a hard wood?

Hey Jess,
It is nice to know that you are still kicking around with some Hawaiian Steel Guitar gigs. Hang in there braddah! Cool

We missed you at the last HSGA convention in Waikiki.

Hope to see you in a little over a year.

Aloha, Smile
Don

I would say the mango wood is about as dense as mahogany-- perhaps a bit softer than koa, and definitely nothing like maple, tho I haven't tried whittling on it with my pocket knife yet! Weight-wise it's a very light instrument. Hope to make the Honolulu HSGA Convention next year. Aloha-- Jess
