No dog in this hunt, I know nothing about this guitar, but its just so cool and unusual looking I wanted to share.. This works well on a Bud.,,, I love the wood look, but this is really sweet looking as well... actually not that bad a price.

Thats a pretty one [just my opinion] those old Buds were hard to beat as far as looks were concerned. May be wrong but that looks like alum to me with a strip on it. Anyway looks like a good deal. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

ProIII's had metal necks, and those are wood necks. Well, they're painted over so they could be anything, but since the changer surround is separate from the neck my guess is they're wood. Most likely just the wrong decal was put on when the gtr was refinished.

This gtr has been on eBay before, btw.

Tim Davidson -

The "dyk?" is a subtlety referring to the way that Charles used to sign off all of his posts. To wit: "Don't you know?" It was his staple until someone - I've forgotten who - raised an unwarranted (my belief) stink about it and Charles abandoned it. The "bc" stands for "Bama Charlie" - he being in the State of Alabama and his nickname gotten from who knows where.

As you no doubt have gathered, he's a truly nice dude and very active in the forum. Hope you didn't mind my jumping in here Bama.

Respectfully,

Richard

Good catch guys, most likely a Pro-II with the wrong decal or maybe even a Super Pro? Pot metal and thick auto paint?? Could be wrong, but you have to wonder if there was a reason they did the auto body shop paint job--maybe in need of lots of bondo Question

Looks to be an earlier Pro ll Custom with the two hole pullers and curved knees.. and an "interesting" paint job. I wonder what it used to look like?

There's a pic of the underside on eBay that shows the bottom of the aprons, and it looks like it might have been black...maybe black laq, which was pretty standard for Pro III's.

Defintely not a SuperPro.
Not to hijack anything, but the gtr that catches my eye is the two tone Bud in Brian's avatar.

Thanks Skip. The one in my avatar started out as an all brown Pro ll.. when I bought it, it had been shellaced with a brush, so I removed the shellac and refinished the top natural. The brown and the decals are original.
OK, back the thread. Did they make any black Pro ll Customs? Like Skip mentioned, there are plenty of black Pro llls and Super Pros, but I don't think I have ever seen a black Pro ll. That would have looked great with the diamond inlay on the body and neck.

Pretty good that the seller included a Sho-Bud mini-history.

Some of you Sho-Bud guys tell me what this Bud is. If you'll notice, it has Pro II on the front but has metal necks and the short body like the Super Pro. I know for a fact that htis guitar is original as it came from factory. It was built in DeQueen, Ark in the late 70's. It sounds and plays great. I play it on our Opry show every Sat. night.

Looks like a ProIII short body. No gumbys, and it's got p/u's that look like the p/u's on a SuperPro II.
The body is shorter than most short body ProIII's, since the changer is flush up against the endplate.
Short body ProII's are like that, but short body ProIII's still have an inch or so between the changer and the endplate. Not a SuperPro, though...you still have the larger step between the necks, and the endplates don't cover the full height of the front apron.
And then there's the ProII decal....
Anything was possible with Sho-Bud.
