Really nice and informative tribute site to the late Jazz guitarist, Bill De Arango.

http://billdearango.com

De Arango has been largely ignored in many discussions about hot players of the late 40s & early 50s - probably because he left the NY scene to go back home to Cleveland at the height of his fame. His 40s records show him to be a spectacular bebop player. I hear a lot of Parker-influence in his runs which to my ear, sometimes have a ball-bearings-rolling-down stairs feel. That he later embraced solid body guitars, wah wah pedals and free jazz is astounding. Who else from his generation of jazz guitarists was that adventurous and defiantly non-commercial? I have his 90s free jazz CD with Joe Lavano but the cuts on this site are much better.

Thanks for the link Andy! I have the EmArcy Lp on cd, it's great, very rare record. I've tried to find the original but it doesn't seem to pop up too often. Some of those earlier recordings seem to be available on ebay, guess I should grab'em!
