A buddy...Mark Johnson (MJ Guitars) had a shop next to me in Cotati, CA.

I told him that I wanted a Tele that was also like a Strat...we designed this guitar.
Later I had him build another..paint it black and send it to me. I painted it with flames and sent it back to him and he finished it.
I had an old black Hamer..another friend saw it and said that it looked boring so he painted like the "Show Bikes" that he does.
Results...3 unique guitars.
Anyone else do this kinda thing??

Most of my six-strings are guitars I assembled and finished myself out of USA Custom & Warmoth parts. When you want a humbucker in the bridge and a single coil neck and a soft V neck tapered from .860" to .940", well, you're not gonna get it in a store - I have picky needs. I've been playing mostly seven string lately - jazz on a metal guitar, hmmm? I have one Warmoth seven, but they only have one neck size option there, so I'm "stuck" with Schecters because they're the biggest seven neck I can find short of paying an exorbitant amount for a full custom. That MJ Guitars has a great reputation, but $15,000 is a bit steep for me.

Mine are covered in dead animals. One is snake skin and another is covered in cowhide.

Here is a pic of the snake skin one, with vintage Dano lipstick pickups. (PETA folks might want to look away now)

Isn't it Mark "Johnston"? I used to have a strat/tele hybrid that he built. If I recall correctly, it was shaped like a tele with a strat pickguard and electronics, light blue in color. Nice guitar.

What shop did you have there next to Zone, Jack?

HI...It is Johnson...he moved his shop to Belgrade, Montana. He is probably going to move back to your area though.

I had a little sign shop next to Marks in what is now the shipping department of Zone Music.

Of all the places that my wife and I lived, we liked Sonoma County the best....just couldn't afford living there.
