I've been working with the new Eleven rack from Digidesign. I must say that is the best piece of recording gear I've used in some time. It allows me to record direct , with absolutely no latency. The amp and effect sounds are amazing.
In addition I can use itas my protools controller. In fact it comes bundled with Pro Tools 8.

Mr. Bouton, can you think of any examples of tracks that I can hear with your direct tone? How often would you say that you track direct on sessions? Which do you prefer?

I record direct when I do mail order sessions from home. in the past I've recorded direct on some of garth brook's recordings, most notable Papa loves Mama and Learning to Live Again.
I prefer speakers and microphones but the modelling amps available provide an alternative when space is limited. The Eleven Rack also comes bundled with pro tools eight and can be used as the only interface.

I went to a Digi seminar on the Eleven, and was told it would not handle a pedal steel because of the pickups. I guess they were wrong, and yes the unit did sound awesome.

That's interesting that you were told that. You do have to be carefull with the input. I can overdrive the unit using a goodrich pedal because the pedal allows the pot to open up farther, than say on an Emmons Pedal.
They are obviously aware of the issue. I'm hoping a firmware update will resolve these issues.

Hi Bruce,
I'm just curious, are you running PTLE or HD? Also, have you used just the software vs the rack and, if so, how do they compare? The rack looks and sounds sweet on the demos but unfortunately I haven't gotten to use it in person yet.
Thanks for your info!
David

Hi Bruce,
Was a firmware update ever issued that addressed the input problem?

Hi, Bruce, I missed this thread the first time around and have wondered how it worked with steel. Any new insights greatly appreciated!

I use an Eleven Rack along with a digi 003 as interfaces into my protools. I use protools 9 now, but started with 8.02.

The rack records very well and the amp/cab/mic simulations are superb.

I was wondering what Amp/Cab/mic setup you use for the Steel Bruce?

I saw Johnny Hiland demo this unit at Sweetwater a few months ago ... It does a lot of neat stuff...although , I'm slower to move ahead on new products , I think this probably works really well for the email projects as well as live stuff. I venture to say this , Bruce...you were the ONE who kept steel alive and in front of everyone during the "Ricky" yrs . And only with basic stuff at that time , Emmons guitar & whatever amp? ..nuf said . JF

I've been trying to import "Eleven Rack" plugin presets into "Eleven Free" which comes with Protools and not having any luck. Haven't been able to find any compatibility info either... maybe that's my answer. Smile Any help is welcome... thanks!

I tried and compared it to Cubase 6. Decided to stay on Cubase. Smile
