I would like to start making my own back up tracks to play along with on my Steel. I would just like to record my Six String Accustic for now just to get started but perhaps adding a Bass guitar and possible drums at a later time. Can anyone tell me the best recording unit to start off with ?
Thanks !!! |

I have a Roland 880. You can find one for around $200 or so on Ebay. It sounds great and is fairly easy to operate. |

John, look on Ebay from time to time or here in the accessories for sale section. Some guys routinely have recording items for sale. I have an Alesis 12 channel Multimix recording interface I bought from Ebay for something like $140. It is way more than I would ever need, but the point is, sometimes you can find good deals.
Good Luck |

tweakheadz.com will give you a range of ideas.
there is free ware on the net to serve as a recording platform. Audacity is a good one.
the easiest way is to have a digital interface, but I hear a mixer can work.
you asked for the best way to record. do you mean the easiest or most straight forward? cause 'best' implies lots of gear and money. |

Thanks guy's for your imput !!!
Randy, To answer your question, I would like the easiest way to record so I could just play my Steel along with what I recorded. Is the Roland VS 880 a good choice ?
Thanks again to all who have answered this post.

looks like it has everything.
does one hook it up to speakers for listening?
could it plug in or interface with a computer, so as to utilize the computer's sound card?
looks simple. under 3000$. I read they are no longer under production and a Boss BR something is recommenced.
there are much less costing units out there.
I use a 150$ USB Lexicon Lambda digital interface. |

Thanks so much again guy's !!!
I just purchased a Boss BR-600 Recorder and it seems to have everything I need to get started.
Now I need to purchase a good pair of speakers to go along with this unit.
Anyone have any suggestions on Speakers ?
Thanks! |

I just use the out puts on my Cass. Player and plug it directly into the input on my sound card and record with Cool Edit Pro,and after you can work on the sound,EQ,Etc...works great for me.When I do it this way I use head phones on the player to listen to the Cass. while I record just for on the fly editing,(Skipping parts on the Cass. you don't want)Then save it in any format you want. _________________ Dan Layne |
