Got it yesterday! Really interesting music with lots of very "European" minor tonality elements. Have not yet had a "proper" listen but look forward to listening more (and reading the massive booklet) in the weekend.

Smile

That's good news. I have a couple of Gino's LPs from way back. I just wonder if the same music/songs will be on the CD. Is there a list of the CD contents available?

Nice shots of Michael Simmons' 7-string Selmer Hawaiian on the site as well:

I had the pleasure of playing that guitar one afternoon plenty loud, and a nice tone.

I repeat,--is there a list of songs that are on Gino's new CD?
Fred, if you have the CD, please list the song titles. Thank you.

Thank you very much for the Gino Bordin CD song list.
I appreciate it. Now I'll have to check to see if I already have them on LPs.

Wally...sorry for the delay in writing this ...I just returned from the Helsinki Ukulele Festival! I can save you the trouble of checking your LPs ...none of these tracks have been issued before( with the exception of one vocal by Tino Rossi). They all come from the 1930s when Gino was playing the 7 string acoustic Selmer Maccaferri Hawaiian model, apart from one 1943 side on electric steel( not previously re-issued). All the LP issues of Bordin come from the 1950s and early 60s and feature his later recordings on electric steel guitar.

Thank you very much, Les. The info sure helps me decide if I want the CD. I love the LPs that I have but I don't believe I'll get the CD. Thanks again.

It may be of interest that the new Gino Bordin CD does not contain any of the Bordin tracks that were on the 'Paris Plages d;Hawaii' CD. The new CD is excellent and well worth the money. I would imagine that a lot of work went into the production.

I received my copy today. The music reminds me of a Hawaiian soundtrack to an unmade Fellini movie. The liner notes and photos are first rate and I recommend this disc highly.

Just thought I should point out that the limited edition bonus cd package is selling out fast with heavy demand coming from France! So I expect to be withdrawing the 2 cd package deal in a couple of weeks from now. Of course the Grass Skirt Bordin disc will still be available from us and also should be in US stores before Christmas.

Any idea what tuning(s) he used on that 7-string?

Last weekend Radio France broadcast a show on Hélène Hazera's show " Boum Boum" called Cyril et Gino . It's an hour long programme of Hélène talking, in French of course!, to Cyril LeFebvre about Gino Bordin , playing tracks from our Grass Skirt cd and Cyril also plays several pieces himself . Well worth checking out and available to download from :
http://sites.radiofrance.fr/chaines/france-culture2/emissions/chansons/

also I understand that the current issue of Fretboard Journal carries Andy Volk's article about Bordin, though I've yet to see a copy personally
