Wiz,
WINDOWS XP, IE8.
I must have accidently "checked" or "unchecked" the wrong box somewhere.
Nearly every time I open a new browser window, the entire screen is enlarged. I use CNTRL and -/+ to resize the window back to a viewable size, but later when I open another window it's back to the huge size again.
This seems to happen most often when I click a link on a webpage.
What did I accidently check or uncheck?
Your help is always appreciated.
See ya.......Joel _________________ Forget "world peace". Visualize using your turn signals. |

Try setting the browser screen the way you want it, then hold down the Ctrl key while you close it with the 'X'. Sometimes that will force Windows to remember the setting for the next time you open it. |

The F11 key is used to toggle between full screen and adjustable screen sizes in Internet Explorer. Try using it to reduce IE when it opens in FS, then resize it to your preference and close all instances of the browser. When you open IE it should be at the last size you set.
Normally, Windows and other operating systems will remember the size of each window when it is closed and will re-open them to that size. If a pop-up new IE browser is always opening at full screen, either you accidentally used the F11 key to make it so, or the code that opened it called for full screen.
You can force IE to open new windows in tabs, instead of new browsers. Go to Tools > Internet Options > General > Tabs. There are several options you can choose from to control how new tabs and windows open, in the browser. Be sure you click Apply if you change anything. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

I do believe I gave the wrong answer to your question! I thought you were asking how to control the window size. I see it is the font size that is the problem.
To force font display back to normal size in Internet Explorer, press Control + 0. There is also a font size adjuster in the lower right side of the status bar. It should be clicked until it reads 100%. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

Wiz,
Thanks for the assistance.
Pressing CTRL and 0 does return the huge screens to normal size, but they don't always stay that way.
All windows may be normal size (I always use fullscreen mode), then when I open another window it's so huge that only about one-forth of the screen is visible on the monitor.
If it was more consistant, I could probably figure it out.
Got anything else I can try?
Thanks.......Joel _________________ Forget "world peace". Visualize using your turn signals. |

Joel;
Try this. Open a browser window to a typical website that has the font size issues. Reset the font size using the magnification control, or the proper keyboard combination. Resize the window as desired, then close the browser window.
When you re-open the browser try going to that website and see if it remembered you last font choice.
If no luck, open your Internet Options and find the section that describes fonts and stylesheet overrides. It is possible that you have inadvertently enabled a browser font override, If so, change it to allow websites to specify the font face and size.
Also, try deleting cookies for the website that is giving you the trouble. Close and open the browser, log into the website if possible, set your desired fonts, then close the browser. Maybe the new cookie will remember you font choice. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum
