Having not heard from Keith after sending two Emails ( I know he's a very busy man )I decided to take the pedal apart - it's out of warranty so, nothing to lose. I dismantled the pedal, removed the cicuit board and found what looked like dust and crud around the tone and volume adjusters. I cleaned around those areas with meths re-assembled the pedal plugged in the guitar and... it worked!! and is still working perfectly. Job done. Happy bunny.

I never move those controls - leave them as set up from the factory, so I put tape over the holes, which also keeps anything from getting into them.
