We need an archive of makers and models. Let's imagine you wanted to know what models Gibson, for instance, had put out. You could just click on Gibson and get a complete list of all models and photographs of them.

We have enough expertise and knowledge within the Forum to put together such a database. All we need is someone to host and organize it.

Yes, there are several databases for individual manufacturers, but no overal database.
This is one of the main problems with the internet. There's a lot of information available but it's not organized. I believe that the next useful stage in the internet will be organization. In 50 years time everyone will wonder how we did without it.

Alan,
you can build yourself a free site at Wordpress.com and augment it for instance (5 gigs for free) with Picassa (an extra 5 gigs).
Wordpress allows you to visualize pix from external sites, you could use it as an aggregator.
Best,
Ed
