Anyone interested in purchasing a new guitar, do yourself a favor and checkout the new Rains guitars. I've just received my new S-10D yesterday, 12-18. I spent this morning, Saturday personalizing the guitar to my tastes and feel. I can assure you as a player, you won't find a better built guitar anywhere. The Rains service is second to none also. Quality with no shortcuts. Gary Carpenter will go the extra mile to see a customer is happy. Yes, I'm a Rains/Carpsteel dealer but I'll speak my opinion on most anything, including guitars when asked. I've owned around 100 guitars over the last 38 years of playing and believe me, the new Rains guitars are the way to go. Not putting down any other brands here, just expressing my RAINS opinion. Thanks.

Hi Billy, I might call in on my way to New Orleans. I am curious though, How does the profit margin on selling Rains compare with selling BMI's ??

profit margin????
wall street! GM ...government motors
holy cow...the dow!
junior samples discovered the only way to increase profits was to git a bigger truck so he could haul more watermelons!
now if he was steelin' those watermelons, then there was a bigger margin.
or is margin what he put on his biskit?
since this is a steel guitar, then the margin must be built in and smooth as stated earlier.
partly cloudy and surely a rains for christmas.
merry christmas billy carr!!!!

Merry Xmas, Country Jack see you in April, if not before. Tb, I don't know what kind of profit margins other dealers have, including Rains & BMI. I'm more interested in seeing that a player is happy with whatever he or she decides to purchase. I have my style of promoting and selling guitars, as do other folks. I prefer selling more products which include freebies and a great price without taking every penny a player has. Rains & BMI are both great guitars. Depends on a players personal taste, as to what they get. Thanks.

Hi Billy, When I get my new Rains do you think that it would need maxtone tweaking or would it be ready to play when I get it?

Tb, I know where your headed with the comments about the mod. My post I started here is to simply praise Gary Carpenter and the guys at RAINS in Ft. Worth. They did an excellent job on my new Rains S-10D. I want folks to know about the service and quality of there products. Does the new guitar "need" a mod? Not in my opinion. I'm happy with it just like it is. I listen for a certain sound I prefer and it has it and then some. Tommy Young is a friend of mine and has done some excellent work on guitars that actually needed the mod. There's several great guitars being built today and I would be happy with any of them. I'd play a Rains even if I wasn't a dealer for them. Gary was nice enough to let me sell his products and promote them. My second choice for a new guitar would probably be Mullen G2. But, I can give someone a great deal on a new Rains or Carpsteel anytime. I only endorse the Rains built guitars at this time. I'm sure TY would be happy to mod mine if it needed it. Thanks.

On an earlier post where the topic was a red Mullen D10 Billy Carr stated:

Tommy's mod is the real thing guys. Take two guitars that are just alike and mod one and not the other. It'll be as different as daylight and dark. I call it an "Enhancement" to a players tone/sustain. Hey TY!

So are we to conclude that Billy believes that a maxtone tweaking can improve a Mullen, but according to today's post can not improve a Rains. Go figure!!!

Roger, This is after all a forum - a place to exchange ideas and opinions. Please don't try to restict us from doing that. This originated in the Roman republic and here is a definition defining what a forum is:

3. an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of questions of public interest.

This is a post about a new S-10D Rains guitar I purchased and nothing more. The "mod" has no place here. Tommy's mod is an option available to whoever wants it and that's the end of that, please. There's no good reason to keep on and on about it. Leave TY alone. He has nothing whatsoever to do with this post. I'd like to hear from other Rains players and there comments about there guitars. Thanks.

Mr. Henry, yes, it is indeed a Forum. And the exchange of ideas and opinions is one of the great benefits it provides. Respectfully, though, you have made your opinion known on numerous occassions, and quite frankly, it's getting old. Something else originating in the Roman republic was the phrase "let a sleeping dog lie". Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Back to the post topic, which is, Rains guitars. For any players that hadn't checked out the new Rains website, do yourself a favor and do it when you can. Very well put together, especially the building of the Rains guitars. Professional grade quality all the way.

Mr. Crawford, it is good to hear your opinion on the subject - a forum is a great place to do just that. As an Alabama fan I am quite happy to let "sleeping dawgs lie! "

I've had my Rains for about 5 yrs now, and have no reason to ever part with it. I sent it to Gary about 2 years ago and had the UPDATE done on it plus the new changer, it made a great guitar even better. You realy can't go wrong with the Rains, and if i had the money i would probably get the carp steel for at home and practice. I played an Emmons PP for 22yrs and i think thats why i like this guitar so much.

Come on Rains owners, let's hear about your guitars and maybe a story to go along with it. Don't let anyone stop you from posting on my thread. We'll just ignore the negatives.

Hey Billy, no negatives about my Rains. I got mine from you about 5 or so years ago and will probably never part with mine. Gary did the upgrade on mine about a year ago also. I'm a simple guy and play nothing but the guitar, volume pedal and amp. My guitar has always had good tone just using an amp and a little reverb. I've got other guitars that I play, including a P/P D-10, but the Rains is my favorite when it comes to tone and play ablity. Gary will go out of his way to help any way he can also. Great folks to deal with.

I'm no expert. But when I hear a Rains I think "This is what I want my steel to sound like"
David Hartley sounds pretty darn good on his Rains, right? Well, I hear a difference when he plays on something else. I would take a chance on a Rains any day. I think they are right up there with what is considered as "top brands" these days.
You can't go wrong with a Rains. My 2 c

Don't know too much about styles, but there is a difference between Gary and Junior in their style. That said the Rains guitar Junior is now playing is without a doubt one of the three best sounding guitars I've ever heard. The one other Rains would have to be the one Gary played in Abilene, Texas when the WTSGA was starting. The other guitar that really caught my fancy was Millennium Serial No. 9 which was built for me and had the first Wallace Tru Tone pickup ever installed on the MSA guitars. I thought I would have to hog tie Dumplin' to get it away from him in Dallas. My couple of pennies worth. Merry Christmas everyone.

Phred

Added: My take on the mods: you like mods, get one. You don't like mods, don't get one. You just might want to check your Manufacturer's warranty before you partake.

Hey Dave, whenever you learn "Hold It" on the C6th neck, how about putting it in a video. Maybe "Night Life" also. Two of my favorites I play whenever I have a D-10 or U-12. Thanks & Merry Xmas.
