Topic: NV 1000 how does it stack up for a Tele guitar? |

Although I love the tone I'm getting from my Vox, I'm finding a lack of power. So I'm thinking of trading for a NV 1000 W/ the matching powered external Cabinet. I know it would be a great steel set up but how about running my Tele with it.

Great steel amp, but get some sort of tube preamp to warm it up a bit for the Tele.

Hey Bill - I just posted under "Steel players" a pretty similar topic. I have been leaving my Vox at home and playing my tele thru the NV1000 (I play steel and tele). I am using an eq for the guitar to help straighten out the tone. I have done it a few times and actually turned out good this weekend. I will keep doing it and hopefully it will get even better. My question was asking about how a nv112 sounded for the tele vs the nv1000.

It really depends on what tone you are seeking from your Telecaster. You will never in a million years get a 6V6/6L6/EL84/12ax7 slightly driven warmth ( 5E3,AB763/AC15/AC30 etc..chassis tone) out of the NV series solid state amps but if that's not what you are looking for then all is well . Clean all day long with very strong mids is what you will have and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Yeah I know, you can use a stomp pedal but pedals are supposed to ADD to your already existing good overall sound not actually create it.
Player >Guitar>Amp> good sound to start with , now you got something goin' on....
Don't get me wrong, I think the NV series amps are the best in the world for Steel guitars...

i use my nash 1k w: a tele as well as w: my psg & lap steel
i have to crank the volume up on it when playin' the tele
granted, it does'nt have the warmth of a tube amp but it cuts through darn good
i don't use a stomp box, nor a tube preamp - just a lexicon mpx 1
my nash has the PV neomag speaker, it's lighter than a twin & has much more power |

| Tony said it as best as I've heard it. Player > Guitar >Amp. Most steel players are compulsive about their tone. So are good Tele players. It's been my experience that steel amps and guitar amps do a half hearted job when their roles are switched. One of the big things to consider is the size of the speaker. 12s and 15s have different responses and in my opinion there is not a 15" speaker that sounds good with a tele and vice versa. To me the key to getting a good sound is to get it up front. Once you have to fool with equalizers and outboard equipment the wheels start to wobble and fall off. |

Bill, I got a good Tele tone from my Nashville 1000 with a Black box and a Boss CS3 compression pedal. The BB will give you a tad of warmth, and the compression pedal will help give you that string pop, that is if you like the string pop sound. Not the tone you'll get from a tube amp, but not bad.

That's why those of us who have been on double duty were glued to our Twins and are now in the quest for a "Twin like amp" in a small lightweight box..
We sold our Twins then spent the next decade searching for a replacement, so now we go to the gig with something we think replaced the Twin or we carry two amps !
