I have no idea if this has anything to do with the "move" but I have noticed that all this past summer even though the crowds were in Branson, most of the shows had very poor attendance ! Phil Koontz told me that most days The Grand Ladies were playing to a crowd of 30 to 40 people! Even our OSGA Pickin Party at The Baldknobbers this summer hosted a small attendance and the entertainment and facilities simply could not have been beat!! I'm wondering if some of the larger shows with all the "bells and whistles" have priced themselves out of the market for the average vacationing familes and the smaller but great shows like Tom's are feeling the ripples from it ?
Whatever the case, I hope The Brumley Music show will live on and I wish only the best to Tom, Tom Jr. Todd, and all the family and hope the heritage of the great family lives on for many years. |

Bill, most of the shows at the Grand Palace have been costing a minimum of $50.00 per seat. Would you pay $100.00 for you and your wife to watch George Jones? I grew up in Branson before there were any music shows. If it were not for tour buses many things would close up. Tour buses are the life blood of Branson. If you watch the tour buses unload, the age of the people is from 55 to 80, with most over 65. Most seniors are on limited incomes. The biggest danger is City Government that keeps growing and taxing. I can remember when city hall was run out of a 15 by 20 foot room and everything worked better. In my opinion Branson is a perfect example of City Government gone crazy. I personally would not want to own anything in the City Limits of Branson because you would be bled to death by taxes. You do know Mel Tillis sold out to the Assembly of God Church and his last show will be this December.
Bill, do you still have to fight the women off you when you use my pedal? |

Keith-- Your comments make a lot of sense and it's evident in the undertaking on the waterfront in downtown now !
As for the problem with your volume pedal : yes it's still there, however I am learning to cope with it as the women are mainly my age and upwards and arn't nearly as agressive in their attacks. What ever the extra effort involved, it's well worth it for the effects of the pedal. My only second thoughts are : should I have opted for the red light edition you had for sale at the time ? - |

Tom you did a session with Sara Evans a while back. There was a song that you played lap steel on and I can't remember the title. It was great stuff and I wondered what tuning you used. I've got a six string Richenbacher that I'd like to start using but I don't know much about it. If it ain't got pedals I'm lost.
Sorry I can't be more specific about the tune but I can't find th CD-it's probably in my wifes car.

I'm with Keith's assessment of the situation in Branson. I remember when the only attraction there was the "cave", and one or two country music shows, and you had to drive over to Eureka Springs to see the "other" one.
I've never seen a show in Branson, even though my wife and I have gone there specifically to do that a couple of times.....but the traffic has discouraged and frustrated us both times before we could settle in anywhere, so we "escaped" as soon as we could find a highway out.
It's worse than Gatlinburg...if that's possible....where we've driven straight through several times because we couldn't find a place to pull off the highway and park!
I guess parking at the back door and walking 25' to a bandstand keeps us from appreciating what the public has to go through to attend these shows. www.genejones.com
