I traded for a set and used them at my show Nov 1st.
I was using a Carvin 12 channel 1000watt powered head with the SP4s.
The sound was great but it shut off on saftey overload a couple times. The Carvin has 3 seperate amps, two for the mains(stereo) and one for the monitors. I was using two 12 inch monitors. I was not miking anything.
Any Idea what was wrong.

Hi Bill,
The peavey SP4 speakers are 4 ohm. If you were running them on one channel it would be equal to 2ohms or less. This could cause that carvin to thermal and shutdown.

That is correct. Two four ohm speakers equal a 2 ohm load on the amp. The amp may be rated for a minimum 4 ohm load.

I checked the back of the amp, it says 333 watts per per amp at 4 ohm. On the front it has a switch where you can send 1000 watts mono or 333 per amp as per three amps, one being for the monitors.

What about your monitors? Were they 4 ohm in parallel? (2 ohm load)...or just maybe the total load from all four speakers was enough to overheat the amp....regardless of what the ratings were???

We played last nite. I backed the main output from 3/4 to 1/2 and turned the Channel Vol up and it worked fine. I don't understand it but it worked.
