I know that choosing speakers has a bit of subjectivity to it, but I need your opinions! I want to get 2 - 12" replacements for a Fender Bandmaster cabinet that would sit under a Fender Custom Twin with 1 - 15" speaker. I love the sound of Fender's 15" based on the JBL D130f and I figure that 2 high quality 12" speakers underneath that will yield a very big and full sound.
I play acoustic / electric (Gibson Chet Atkins SST and Gibson Les Paul acoustic) in a rock format. So, I have to cut through yet maintain a warm, acoustic sound. I want punch and a tight bass with lots of clean headroom - don't mind a touch of bite / edge. I have narrowed it down to;
Jensen P12n
EVM 12L classic
Beyma Liberty 8
any guidance you can give me on which one of these is best suited for my needs is greatly appreciated. Price is not a factor, weight could be but I doubt there is much difference between these.
Thanks! |

Dom,
I would throw another classic speaker in the mix since you are playing an acoustic/electric. The JBL E120-8. Lots of top to help the wooden guitar sound. I really like the EVs you mentioned but I don't think they have the high end to give your A/E guitar the bite it needs on top.
From your list the P12N would be next.
For strictly electric the EVM-12L would be my top pic of your choices listed. Nice and warm.
Best,

You might want to check out the Weber California 12, basically a clone of the JBL D120.
Remember that the Bandmaster is only 45 watts though, and observe the correct OHM ratings for running an extra cabinet.

Several things to consider. Older JBL speakers are out of phase to regular speakers (red terminal is negative). I can't find a schematic for your amp so I can't verify of it was designed for an aux speaker load (with output transformer tap switching on the second jack).
Be careful, 2-8ohm speakers in a new cab can only be wired 4 ohms or 16 ohms. 2 each 16 ohm speakers could be wired as an 8 ohm load.
I see from ads the amp is rated at 4 ohms. Adding a parallel external 4 ohm load is a 2 ohm total load. Adding an 8 ohm external load is a 2.66 ohm total load. |

Found a manual online. It states clearly that an 8 ohm speaker only is used in the aux jack.
You with need to get two speakers at 4 ohms and wire in series or two at 16 ohm speakers and wire in parallel. |
