Merle and the Strangers, Buck and the Buckaroos, George and the Jones Boys, Mel and the State Siders...

Do new country acts have a name for their bands or are they musicians that just work for the "STAR"?

Oh yeah, what about band costumes/uniforms? That was just part of the mystique and prestige of being in a good country band...you remember 'em!

Just wondering...

Tommy

Apparently, that is the norm nowadays. Less pretentious, I suppose. Neutral

Jim, I guess the reason I don't know their band names is because I don't like their new music.

But I mean the "new stars" in the last few years... George and LeAnne have been around a while.

I would like to know some more BAND names if anyone cares to share.

Thanks, Tommy

Yeah, I think a lot of them have names, but it's not advertized with the star like it used to be. I didn't know George Straight's bands name. It's never been important for me to find out. There's also all kind of bands out there that don't have a person's name associated with them. Leftover Salmon, Exhile, Raschal Flatts, etc.... I don't see that it makes a lot of difference either way.

Hey Tommy......I'm worried about you.

From this post it would tend to suggest that your drifting back into that olde-timers syndrome.......
wasting your precious hours dreaming of yester-year,
when steel players names were proudly displayed across the front of their g'tars; When band uniforms were 'the NORM'; when dark slacks and white shirts were an acceptable 'alternate' uniform; when personal appearance and hygene were as important as properly working musical instruments.

Be careful now......... I wish the best for you.

back in the 40's I played with several groups,

The Ramer String Band
Smokies Drifters

"Country Drifters" This band org. in Tallahassee Fl.
Quitman Ga. "Brooks county Jambaree"

On the Hayride Sammy Barnhart did not name his band

One in Montgomery al. OOkee Wallace, He wound up with real talent and wrote some good songs , but had trouble getting them to the public. Don Lynch told me at the last al. Show, Ookee took all his manuscrips out to the Alabama River and threw them off the Bridge.
The pressure was just to much to handle I guess, he was a pretty good Kid hate to see it end like that. While I played in his band one point of interest he had a real pretty
sister. To set the record straight we only held hands in the bus.

Any artist worth his salt takes pride in the musicians that work hard to give him or her their sound..Good bands are proud to have an identity, something that shows they work as a band not as individuals...But having heard what is being put out nowadays and seeing that they dress like end of the shift Coal miners..( Laughing I'd say "nameless" is sufficient..Besides the Coal miners name is already taken.. Sad

It's not only in the country genre, think of:
James Brown and the Blue Flames
Bill Haley and his Comets
Gary Lewis and the Playboys
Later on it was used as a reminiscence:
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
John Hiatt and the Goners
Neil Young and the Shocking Pinks
it's not fashionable anymore. What concerns me more is the quality of the music, I can allways read the credits.

Last year a singer named Judge Fletcher was trying to get a band going. We played out a few times and he wanted a band name. I suggested Judge Fletcher and the Hung Jury.

Everybody liked the name, but the band never got off the ground. Maybe we didn't have the correct prescription?

Dierks Bentley's band is called the Terminally Lonesome Band, and Gary Allan's band is called the Honky Tonk Wranglers. Hank Williams Jr's band was the Bama Band.

The Dancehall Doctors are Tim McGraw's band, featuring Denny Hemingson on steel.
