Purely out of curiosity.
How many gigs do YOU play per year. This can be paid or unpaid but must have the public present.
I do about 60-70

Up until last year I would do 144 per year and I have cut back to 72 this year, and am considering going less next year. I will turn 76 early next year and the age is telling me to slow down, or else.

About fifty. I turn down almost as many as I accept because of my school schedule and all that.

This year will be about 150 because I am new to Austin and am spending so much time on the road. Things should pick up as I settle in.

Just in case the IRS is reading this...

Steel guitarists usually perform for free. It's a tradition, even when the rest of the band is getting paid. We love the instrument so much that we wouldn't dream of charging money to play.

This is why steel guitarists are in such great demand.

We now return to the poll. Smile

I've only been keeping track of my gigs since 1996, when I retired from the road, and since then I've played 1,795 of 'em, which is about 128 a year. No money, but lots of free beer and free studio time. Cool

When I was with Faron, for ten years in the '80's, we worked about 120 days a year. Before that, the Opry artists I worked with did fewer road dates but more Opry spots.
