Hey y'all.
I finally connected with a real jazz piano player,
who sings and plays, and doesn't live to ONLY play in Bangkok.
An English bloke named Tim Hedges, who once played with
Joe Jackson and Graham Maby back in the day in Portsmouth UK.
The drummer Mark is my favorite local drummer,
escaping from the funk and blues he usually must
wade through on a regular basis. But he likes
jazz and latin too, so he was happy to play.
So here is a spot of our first musical get together.
A bad location at the Four Seasons Resort on Koh Samui.
It rained and our stage on the beach with Xerox New Zealand
spread across the beach before us went under cover
as sound check was rained out, and of course it never rained again...
This is end of the evening, we were set up, without lights,
under the beach's service bar roof, but the music didn't care,
same for the clueless sound crew... the monitor mix sucked wind.
Tim normally sings lighter, and my bass is not even mixed out front..
I discovered afterwards.
But I did a bit of a compilation at 9:30 min.

A two speed latin version of Tenderly, Cantaloupe Island,
It Don't Mean A Thing, Cry Me a River, Blue Bossa Salsa
If we play like this the day we met, we can only get better,
and there is something solid to build on,
We played 4, 45 minutes sets without rehearsal.
I am off to Phuket for three days of playing,
and we will alternately swap off on island visits,
or what bookings dictate. New Years and Xmas gigs
are being shopped at by no less than 3 promoters... _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

Well it made it to a tight 5 piece with guitar and sax,
and a steady night in a nice classy place,
before imploding from swelled head and road fatigue.
Nothing unusual.
But good for the chops while it lasted. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.
