My buddy, Daniel, and I went last night to see Mickey Adams play his Mullen G2 at Billy Bob's Texas ... and, man, does his Mullen sing! It really cut through nicely and his tone was great (as well as his playing). We really had a blast and Mickey was a very gracious host when he came off the bandstand on breaks.

Here are a couple of photos we took of Mickey playing his G2 ...

... would love to go into more detail, but the Packers are playing as I type this and I definitely have to cheer them on ... Go, Pack, Go !!! (Also, need to get the brats cooking) Very Happy

Will come back in and post a little more after the Packers game ... it was a great evening and I really appreciate being able to go and hear Mickey play. Smile

mickey seems to be ok, but those other construction workers don't seem to be very happy or entertaining or even pleasant to look at. hey..just my opinion. you'd think playing at billybobs would warrant a slight bit of pride.....i miss the old honky tonk days when it was fun and special to 'entertain'.

Yes Chris I must agree --- they look like a bunch of slobs ....a bit more effort in the presentation wouldn't take much!

That is the hottest thing going in Ok & Tx. It is considered Red Dirt music. The phrase I hear all the time when talking about Red Dirt is it is REAL !! I am not sure what that means.

Red Dirt seems to cover alot of ground . From country to rock and some of it is a little out there. I don't know these guys but they are just doin what it takes to play Billy Bob's these days.

And Billy Bob's is a great place to play. So when in Rome !!

Perhaps the band in general may have been dressed a little on the relaxed side (and, they weren't smiling because I happened to catch them on camera at a serious moment in the song), but you should have heard them play. They sounded great!

Being an old veteran of playing Billy Bob's myself, I was a little worried about what the mix would sound like, but I was pleasantly surprised after the bank kicked off. The sound man did a good job and the band was mixed really well. The band was tight and dynamic and they all played with excellent taste and technique. One of the guitar players doubled on saxophone and his playing was superb.

Then, there was Mickey's really fine playing on his G2. His guitar really sang out and his tone, technique and content was an absolute delight to hear.

Actually, when the headliner kicked off on the main stage, my buddy and I were sitting there saying, "Man, they need to bring Mickey's band back on stage."

Well, now I'm off to go home and practice a bit on my steel to celebrate the Packers' win over the 49ers. Very Happy

Hey, Jim ... Don't feel alone. This post is the first time I've discovered what "Red Dirt" music is, though I have heard the term a couple of times in the last month or two.

Ron, I agree that Mickey is a headliner act. This was the first time I'd heard him play (beyond the many great instructional videos he has on YouTube) and I really enjoyed hearing him.

Ricky, I'd like to have seen Mickey out front as well. My last boss was Ty Herndon and I worked with him for 10 years (5 years before he got signed with Epic Records and 5 years as a national artist). During the first five years, Billy Bob's was one of our "staple" gigs in the area and we played a lot on the Honky Tonk stage ... and most often I was stuck in the back right where Mickey was sitting in the photos. Near the end of our Honky Tonk stage days, though, I finally moved over to the front on stage right and really enjoyed it. Smile

the band i'm with plays most weekends at small clubs and just for lack of room on stage I have to be out front, I would rather be in the back and out of reach lol

I always enjoyed the back part of the stage when I was on a steel riser (lets me see what's going on out front). Any other time, I've always enjoyed my steel being out front (no one to step in front and shade the fret board from the stage lights). Laughing

Hey Mickey, did Matt tell you to turn down?

When I played there a couple of weeks ago he mumbled something about oh no a steel player and I looked at him and said get F....d.

He never came up to me all week and said turn down like he always does.

Shane

I listened to some of the samples and most of it is pretty listenable, at least compared to what the national awards shows consider country.
