This is my first upload to soundcloud. I played with Mary Kay Place back in the late 70's and we recorded an album that Columbia chose not to release. Somehow, it did manage to get released last year.

So this is a really nice Tom Snow song. Lot's of great players on this.....Paul Marshall on bass, Jim Shirey on piano, Waddy Wachtel on guitar, Mickey Raphael on harp, Valerie Carter, Blondie Chaplin, and Nicolette Larson on backup vocals, Ricky Fataar on drums, produced by Rob Fraboni at The Bands Shangra La studio in Zuma Beach.

Ah for the good ole days........

Great Steve! I remember when you all did a show at the Cafe Metro in Newport Beach. I think that may have been 1977?

Are we not making music like this anymore simply because it's out of style? If so, that's either too bad, or I miss the '70's too much... Oh Well

Thanks all. Yea, Gary, we were young then weren't we? Shangra La had a great vibe.

Mary Kay was (still is) a great woman. Shame she didn't feel the confidence to continue singing. Her best pals of the day were EmmyLou, Nicolette, and Linda Ronstadt. She always felt a bit inadequate next to them, but she was a decent singer, funnier than can be, and very kind to us all.

i hadn't heard these cuts in a long long time (I have them on a cassette somewhere) I think that song stands the test of time, still holds up after all the hair has left my purty head.

So Gary, when is the next Vanduras release? I play it all the time for friends to show them how steel guitar can make beautiful music outside the country genre.

Young? Yes, we were. And, Mary Kay was (is) a sweetheart.

My son Geoff, and I are workin' on another Vanduras CD.

Who needs all that hair anyway?!

Good singer, good actress. I like the recording. The producer must have been a steel player considering how he mixed your solo right out front, in your face. And a 5 minute song back in those days: man, I thought only Dylan (and Iron Butterfly) could get away with that. Nice! Smile

That's easy for you to say dude!!!

It isn't a bald head....it's a solar sex panel. (thank you John Hiatt for the reference)

It's interesting how you see the analog dynamics in the wave form display on SoundCloud. Modern songs don't look (or sound) nearly so organic.

Beautiful job, Stephen. Great intonation on those high notes.

Steve, you could look at it this way - we (all) had hair when we needed it. Laughing

Very nice! With all the phoney country twang you hear on the radio nowdays, it's refreshing to hear Mary's "natural" female voice (instead of that Loretta Hagger thing).

The steel work is great. Very Happy

Steve, were you playin' your Emmons, or your ZB on that song? To my ear it sounds like the Emmons.
