Just purchased an SD-10 with the Franklin pedal, standard Emmons set up. If I have it tuned right it lowers 5 from B to A, 6 from G# to A# and 10 from B to A. Any info as to how to get started with this pedal and its use and is any training material on the use of this pedal. Any help and comments on this pedal much appreciated.

This is available directly from Paul Franklin . . .

CD AUDIO INSTRUCTION

NEW!!! P.F. Pedal 4...E9th...$20.00

NEW!!! The F#'s to G# and Eb to E Knee Lever Change...E9th...$20.00

These courses teach the player how to incorporate these modern changes into familiar melodies, so that the player can learn the harmonic concept behind the musical intervals they provide. Although licks are taught throughout these lessons, both CD's teach much more than the licks made familiar on radio hits.

that should be 6th string lowered G# to F#
(I assume that's what you meant)

Just hit it and release it -- use an ordinary string grip -- 8 6 5 works well

It implies a 5-chord (like a B in the key of E)
If you also lower 8 (and 4) to D# you will have a B7 chord in the open position (without a B since you lowered them to A -- the bass player or guitar player will play a B or you can just omit it)

It can also be used in harmonized melody patterns. It's like playing 5 and 6 and going back 2 frets as part of a melody or solo phrase. Cool thing is the other notes stay the same. If you use 8 6 5, play then engage -- the 8 stays the same. If you move the bar the 8th string goes too. 6 5 4 works too, as does the low B to A with 10 8 6. With and without the E to D# lever.

It's a useful change. I see it as an extension of G# to F#, which has been used for decades.

Get Paul's course. Also, look in the Tab section -- there have been scores of threads on this topic.
