I got my new (used) Fessy SD-10 yesterday and it's a fine guitar, but in trying to get it set up and tuned. I'm having a problem getting the 3rd pedal F# to raise far enough. Everything else on the guitar seems to tune OK. Do I just need to adjust the pedal stop for slightly more travel or is there something else I'm missing?

Try moving the pull rod that connects to the bellcrank into a higher slot. Maybe the second slot.

Skip, I bet you just changed strings. Might have had a 11.5 or 12 on the third. They will pull up quicker. But you know that, Oops, back in my box... Wink

Congrats on the new Fessy. Let us know how you like it.

If you need to pull farther you would need to put that rod in a slot farther away from the guitars body (if the guitar is upside down, this would be a "higher slot").

Make sure the tuner at the enplate is backed off so there is just a little play in the rod when no pedal is depressed.

Then the other place to check is where the pedal rod meets the crossrod/bellcrank... there should be a "stop"-adjustment there that you could back out a bit to allow that pedal to depress farther / have more travel.

Skip, you might want to back off the nylons for the C pedal's 4th & 5th strings first.

Then try tuning only your 4th string E to F#. If that tunes up to F#, and returns ok, and you have free end play in the pull rod, then tune your 5th string B to C# raise.

If you can't get the 4th string up to F#, you'll need to find out why, before going on with tuning up the 5th string's raise to C#.

It takes more pedal travel to pull the lighter gauge string, up a full tone, than it does to pull the heavier gauge string up a full tone. So you'd want to set your pedal stop via the 4th strings raise. Then you'll know you've got plenty of travel for the 5th string's raise.

Hope that helps somewhat, although I've never owned a Fessy.

Okay!! Don gets the gold star for today - his suggestion fixed the problem immediately. Thanks, Don!
BTW - do you still have your Carter?

Skip,

Glad I was able to help you out.

Yes on the Carter. Still have the black D-10 Carter, and bought a red D-10 Carter, a while back......

Darn, I never got a Gold Star before... Winking Don
