Jerry Byrd's arrangement of Kilima Waltz is one I have played for a while now and is one of my favorites.

Does anyone happen to know the derivation of the word Kilima?
Is it a location (city, town) in Hawaii like Kona etc?
I cannot find out anything about it.

This is an old song by George Awai back from around the turn of the century.

I'm guessing that Kilima is one of those words whiched today has derived to: KALIMA

The spelling of many Hawaiian words have changed, more so during the time after the arrival of the missionaries when they tried to put the Hawaiian language to writing.

I've read somewhere that one of the theories as to some of the word changes was that the missionaries was not too sharp in writing down or translating correctly what they heard the natives say, thus they wrote down what they thought they heard.
