It is with deep sadness that I report the passing of a fellow musician, Mr John W. (Johnny) Stone of Pine Bluff,AR . John was a longtime and well accomlished steel guitarist . He was well known and well liked by those who knew him . He was recently made a lifetime member in our steel guitar association . He will be sorely missed . We grieve with his family and friends as well as fellow musicians .
God bless John W. Stone .
May he rest in peace . |

dennis, i roo am saddened yet thankful that you posted this news.
just a few weeks ago , i called johnny out of the blue when i learned from bob dalton that johnny had recently suffered a light heart attack. we had not talked in years, but that night we covered about 70 miles and an hour and a half as i traveled on down the road. he felt good and was in good spirit. we discussed some old and good country music.
as a sideman on the road johnny had gone many a mile thru the nite with claude gray.
"i'll have one more cup of coffee, then i'll go"
r.i.p. johnny stone.
i think also, if you dig deep enough you will find that he is the stone, of the "dalton stone pony amp".

John was also a Ham radio operator, used to talk to him all the time when I lived in Pine Bluff, he was also a member of the local Amateur radio club. He was currently not active on the air.
